Harry Potter party!

Remember those awesome invitations I made for Nate's birthday party for his friends from school? Well Saturday was the big day! The big Harry Potter party! We actually started celebrating Nate's birthday Friday night when his cousin Ben came to have a sleepover and Ryan and I took them out for dinner. We went to Firestone. The boys had fun! They get a long so well. Of course they went to bed way too late, but isn't that what sleepover's are all about!

Saturday we had his party with all his little friends from 1-3pm at my Dad's house. Thank goodness we decided to do it there! Seven little boys (including Ty) have a lot of energy, and all the extra space was needed for running around. When all the boys arrived they were sorted into a house. We put a hat on their head and they picked a slip of paper from a cup which had their house written on it. I made house crest necklaces that they wore. If you've seen the movies they always clap once someone is sorted. Without any prompting Nate got everyone clapping once someone was sorted. It was so fun! We had 3 Gryffindor's, 2 Hufflepuffs, and 2 Ravenclaws! We decided no Slytherin's would be welcome at this party!

After the sorting we played a few games. The first game was pass the golden snitch. The boys sat in a circle and passed a little gold ball to each other while the music (yes Harry Potter music that Ryan found on his phone!) played. Whoever had the snitch when the music stopped was out until there was one little boy left! Then we played find the philosopher stone. One of the boys hid a rock and then the rest had to find it. Then we had a quidditch race. They had a stick between their legs and they had to run from point A to point B without using their hands to hold on to the stick. It was lots of fun. After the first game one little boy said to me "I'm all gamed out". ha ha ha...too funny. After that we just let them play. We ate cake and opened presents and then they played until their parents came to get them. It was a lot of fun but we were sure glad when it was all over. Nate had a lot of fun and was happy to have all his little friends over to play. For party favor's we gave them Bertie Bott's every flavored beans (jelly bellies) and chocolate frogs (frog jelly's dipped in chocolate) and their own snitch's (a bouncy ball). It was a big success!

A golden snitch on Nate's cake! (Thanks Ginger!)

An hour later mine and Ryan's immediate families started to gather for dinner. I asked Nate what he wanted for his birthday dinner and he said "Ichiban!". So we had Ichiban and chili burgers, with veggies and chips. It was so nice for our families to come out and support Nate. He got to open a few more gifts and ate some more cake. It was such a good day for him and I know he felt special. Thank you to all who made it a special day for him!

ps. The first thing he said to me in the morning on his birthday was "Mommy I'm six now...I can run really, really fast now, just like Ben!" I wish it worked like that Bud! I'm glad you had such a fantastic birthday! Love you lots!
